What these tools do and who needs them
AI aggregator platforms give you one account that connects to many different AI models. Instead of signing up separately with each provider, you log in once and switch between ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek and many more. This suits both general users who want to compare models side by side and developers who need to call AI APIs inside their own applications.
Every tool in this category is primarily an aggregator. Poe lets one account access dozens of AI models including ChatGPT, Claude and DeepSeek, from US$4.99/month. Monica is a browser-extension AI assistant that aggregates multiple models, with a daily free allowance and paid plans from US$8.3/month (billed annually). OpenRouter routes to 400+ models with automatic price comparison and fallback; it has 25+ free models capped at 50 requests per day. Groq uses a custom LPU chip to deliver the fastest available inference for open-source models; the free tier requires no credit card, with per-model rate limits. Replicate hosts thousands of open-source generative models billed by the second, with no free tier.
Three common free-tier traps
1. Free credits have been cut; always check the current number. Poe’s daily free credits dropped from about 3,000 to about 300 in March 2026. A few calls to a premium model can empty the day’s allowance, and the pricing page may not reflect the change in real time; check the number you see after logging in.
2. “Free models” does not mean “the model you want is free.” OpenRouter has 25+ free models, but top-tier models require credits. Groq’s free tier covers open-source models only, not OpenAI or Anthropic models. Before counting on a free plan, search the platform’s model list for the specific models you use most.
3. Browser-extension aggregators share one credit pool across all tasks. Monica’s free plan gives 40 ordinary-model uses per day shared across chat, image generation and PDF analysis. Heavy cross-feature use in an afternoon drains the pool quickly.
How to choose: three plain rules
- Decide whether you need a chat interface or an API call. Casual users are better served by Poe or Monica, which have a usable interface. Developers or anyone building an application should look at OpenRouter, Groq or Replicate.
- Estimate your monthly volume before choosing between subscription and pay-as-you-go. Only 2 tools here have a fixed monthly plan (US$4.99 and US$8.3); the rest bill by usage or are free, which suits occasional users who do not want a recurring charge.
- Check whether the specific model you need is supported. Each platform supports a different set of models. Before signing up, search the platform’s model list for the models you actually use.
