CapCut AI Plans 2026: Free Limits, the Watermark Trap, and Standard vs Pro

CapCut (ByteDance) is one of the most widely used AI video editors in Taiwan, with full Traditional Chinese support. But it has an unusual problem: there is no publicly reachable official pricing page. Since 2026-07-25 we have repeatedly tried capcut.com/pricing, /subscribe and /tools/pricing — all returned 404 or 502, and our most recent manual browser check (2026-08-08) still hit a 404. So this article splits in two: the free-tier limits can be verified on official tool pages, while the prices rest on third-party sources only and stay flagged as unverified candidates.

The official pricing page has been unreachable (404/502) throughout our checks, so prices were cross-referenced from multiple third-party articles, including gamsgo.com, bigvu.tv and costbench.com. In short: manual editing, captions, background removal, audio extraction and format conversion can all be finished on the free tier with no watermark. That is more generous than most tools in its class.

The real free-tier trap: the watermark is conditional

This is the most misunderstood part. CapCut’s free tier does not stamp everything:

• ✅ Purely manual edits and free templates → no watermark
• ❌ Any Pro-marked template or effect left in the project → small watermark on export
• ❌ Exporting certain AI-generated segments → watermark as well

The common scenario: you build an edit around a good-looking template, then discover text in the corner at export time. The thing to check is whether your assets carry a Pro badge, not whether you paid. Guaranteeing a watermark-free export across the board requires Standard or above.

Standard vs Pro (prices = third-party, pending official confirmation)

Details worth knowing:

1. The plans were renamed. Third-party sources agree that in early 2026 the old “Pro” (~US$10/mo) became Standard, and a new higher tier named Pro (~US$19.99/mo) was added. Any 2025-era tutorial claiming “Pro is only US$10” is describing today’s Standard.
2. Annual billing is about US$179.99, roughly US$15/month — about 25% below the US$19.99 monthly rate (same third-party sourcing).
3. In-app purchase costs more. Several sources cite roughly US$21.99–22.99/month on iOS/Android because of store commission. We deliberately did not write this into the site’s official price fields — treat it as a heads-up: a higher number on your phone is store pricing, not a price hike.
4. Local currency pricing is unverified. Our records show Standard around NT$260–330/month, but that is a converted/third-party range, not an official Taiwan list price, so we do not state it as fact.

Which one should you pick?

Based strictly on the verified differences:

• Only cutting Reels/Shorts, adding captions, removing backgrounds → the free tier is enough, as long as you avoid Pro-marked templates and effects.
• Using AI features regularly and hitting the ~600-credit ceiling → Standard. It buys AI credits and watermark-free Pro assets, not better image quality.
• Need 4K delivery, cloud collaboration space, voice cloning or motion capture → only Pro has these three, so there is nothing to compare. Go annual if you’ll keep it.

One line: Standard buys quota and watermark removal; Pro buys 4K + 1TB + advanced AI. If you don’t need 4K, the extra US$10 is mostly wasted.
