CreateOS Sandbox sells itself as a pay-as-you-go home for AI agents — isolated virtual machines that spin up, run a task, and shut down, with no monthly bill attached. The pitch is simple: no minimums, no monthly commitment, just a per-second meter. That part is accurate and we confirmed it against the official pricing page. What’s murkier is the free tier. CreateOS Sandbox pricing claims vary depending on which page of their own site you read, and that gap is worth walking through before you connect a payment method.
CreateOS Sandbox is built for developers and companies deploying AI agents that need real isolation — not a shared container, but hardware-level separation using Firecracker, the same micro-VM technology (a lightweight virtual machine that boots in milliseconds and gets its own slice of CPU and memory, isolated from other workloads on the same server) that underpins AWS Lambda. That’s relevant context: CreateOS positions itself as a cheaper alternative to exactly that kind of infrastructure.
What You Actually Pay For
There’s no tiered plan structure here — no Starter, Pro, or Enterprise tier with different feature sets. There’s one billing model: usage. You’re charged US$0.0504 per vCPU-hour (one virtual CPU core running for one hour) and US$0.0162 per GiB-RAM-hour (one gibibyte of memory allocated for one hour). Spin up a sandbox, the meter starts. Shut it down, the meter stops. There’s no charge for data leaving the sandbox (egress/outbound traffic), which some competitors charge for separately and which can quietly inflate a bill.

Illustration: This illustration highlights how computing power and memory are billed separately without a bundled price package.
You can configure sandboxes anywhere from 0.5 to 64 vCPUs and 0.5 to 512 GiB of RAM, in any combination, which gives you a lot of room to size a workload precisely instead of overpaying for a fixed instance size. Deployments run in EU or US regions, and you can mount external storage — S3, MinIO, or R2 — directly into the sandbox.

The Free Tier Question
Here’s where it gets inconsistent. CreateOS Sandbox’s own pricing page does not publish a free credit amount. The site states usage-based billing with no minimum spend and no monthly fee — meaning, as far as the pricing page is concerned, billing starts the moment you provision a sandbox. There is no stated free allowance on that page.
But a separate section of CreateOS’s own documentation — the plan feature list — includes a line item describing “500 free credits for new accounts” as part of what the usage-based plan includes. That’s a direct contradiction with the pricing page, which makes no mention of any free credit grant at all. We could not find a single, authoritative page stating the exact free credit mechanics: how much US$ value 500 credits equals, how long they last, or whether they apply automatically on signup.
No Annual Discount, No Fixed Monthly Option
If you’re used to SaaS pricing — a free tier, then a US$20/month tier, then enterprise — CreateOS doesn’t work that way. There’s no annual billing discount and no fixed monthly plan to upgrade into. The only “upgrade path” is using more compute, which simply costs more at the same per-hour rate. That’s either refreshingly simple or a problem, depending on whether you need predictable costs. A team with spiky, hard-to-forecast AI agent workloads benefits from paying only for seconds used. A team that wants a flat line-item for budgeting purposes gets nothing here — there’s no cap, no monthly ceiling, and no option to pre-pay for a fixed quota beyond whatever the undocumented new-account credit grant turns out to be.
🔍 AMPM exclusive check
The official pricing page (createos.sh/pricing) states plainly: no minimums, no monthly commitment, billed by usage. Nowhere on that specific page does it mention free credits for new accounts. However, CreateOS’s own sandbox product documentation separately lists “500 free credits for new accounts” as an included feature of the usage-based plan. We checked both pages as of 2026-09-08 and the contradiction still stands: one official source says no free allowance is documented, another official source references a 500-credit grant without specifying what that’s worth in dollars, how it’s applied, or its expiry. We could not locate any page on createos.sh that resolves this by stating the credit’s dollar value or terms. If you sign up expecting a free trial based on the “500 credits” mention, verify your account dashboard directly after registration — don’t assume the number matches what you’d expect from the hourly rates above, since CreateOS never states the conversion.
☀️ AMO, the budget-minded cat

AMO cares about one thing: is free enough, and is paying worth it. For CreateOS Sandbox, the honest answer is “we don’t fully know, and neither does their pricing page.” There’s no clearly documented free tier — the pricing page describes pure usage billing with no mention of a trial allowance, while a different part of the site references 500 free credits for new accounts without saying what that converts to in hours of compute. If you’re testing whether an isolated AI agent sandbox fits your stack, that ambiguity means you can’t budget a trial in advance — you’d need to sign up and check your account balance directly to find out what you’re actually working with. On the paid side, the math is at least transparent: US$0.0504 per vCPU-hour plus US$0.0162 per GiB-RAM-hour, with zero egress fees and no minimum spend. For a small sandbox — say 1 vCPU and 1 GiB of RAM — that’s a fraction of a cent per hour of pure compute cost, and you can shut it off the second you’re done to stop the meter. Paying is worth it only if your workload is bursty enough that a flat-rate competitor would cost more; if you need something always-on for predictable budgeting, the lack of a fixed monthly plan here works against you.
Verdict: who should use it, who should skip it
Use CreateOS Sandbox if your AI agent workloads are irregular — short bursts of compute rather than constant uptime — and you want hardware-level isolation (via Firecracker micro-VMs) without committing to a monthly SaaS-style plan. The ability to size vCPU and RAM independently, in a huge range from 0.5 to 64 vCPUs and 0.5 to 512 GiB RAM, is genuinely flexible, and zero egress fees remove a cost that trips people up elsewhere. The claimed cost advantage over AWS Lambda-style infrastructure is worth testing against your own workload numbers rather than taking at face value.
Skip it, or at least pause, if you need a clear, stated free trial before committing a payment method — the pricing page doesn’t give you one, and the “500 free credits” reference elsewhere on the site isn’t backed by stated terms. Skip it too if you want predictable, flat monthly costs for budgeting purposes: there’s no monthly plan option, just metered usage with no ceiling. And if your workloads run continuously rather than in bursts, a provider with a flat-rate or reserved-capacity plan will likely cost less than paying the per-hour rate around the clock.

AMPM is an independent AI-tool pricing watchdog tracking official prices worldwide. Our motto: ask before you subscribe. Two cats argue every tool from two sides:
- ☀️ AMO — the budget-minded cat. Always asks: is the free tier enough, and is paying actually worth it?
- 🌙 PIMI — the performance-minded cat. Cares about whether it works well, fast, and gets your job done.
