Most AI-tool referral programs pay a percentage. Descript is one of the exceptions: a flat US$25 for every new subscriber you bring in. We read the official affiliate page today (2026-09-06). Here are the terms, the migration currently under way, and how flat-fee compares to percentage in practice.
1. The official terms

2. Deal with the migration first
A notice at the bottom of the page states the program is moving to PartnerStack, that current affiliates need to reapply, and that the terms now live at a new location.
Two consequences:
- What happens to old links and unpaid balances is not described — whether legacy links keep tracking, and how outstanding commissions transfer, is unverified.
- Anyone applying now simply goes through the new platform, allowing about a week for approval.
If you have live links already driving traffic, the safe sequence is: reapply, confirm the new dashboard is recording data, and only then swap the links in your content.
3. Flat US$25 versus a percentage
Neither model is strictly better. What decides it is what your readers buy.
Flat fee (Descript)
- Upside: predictable. It does not matter which tier they choose or whether they pay monthly or annually — it is US$25, with no waiting through multiple billing cycles.
- Downside: a big customer pays you no more. Even a top-tier or team purchase is still US$25.
Percentage (most competitors)
- Upside: the more expensive the plan, the more you earn; recurring shares are worth more over time.
- Downside: unpredictable, and usually attached to clawbacks, verification periods and duration caps.
A simple rule: if your readers are individual creators buying entry or mid tiers, a flat US$25 often beats a percentage; if your readers are teams or enterprise buyers, percentage models have a far higher ceiling.
4. “No minimums, paid monthly” is underrated
Several programs we checked the same week carry a US$100 payout floor and a 60-day verification hold — you accumulate first, then wait two months. Descript’s page states no minimum sales requirement and automatic monthly PayPal payouts.
For anyone starting out with low volume, getting paid for a single sale matters more than the headline rate.
