Gmail Live, Docs Live and Keep Live Are Out: Which Google Accounts Get Them (Verified 2026)

On September 3, 2026, Google announced on its official blog that three voice-first features are rolling out: Gmail Live, Docs Live and Keep Live. In plain terms, Gemini’s live voice conversation is now inside the mailbox, document editor and notepad you already use — you talk to them instead of typing.

Useful, yes. But here is the part most write-ups bury at the bottom: no free Google account gets any of the three, and the rollout starts in English only.

1. What each one actually does

All feature descriptions below come from Google’s own announcement post.

Gmail Live — questions instead of a search box. Google’s own examples are refreshingly domestic: “What’s my flight’s gate number?” and “What’s going on at my kid’s school this week?” The assistant reads your inbox and answers out loud, with a live transcript on screen so you can read back anything you missed.

The difference from search: you no longer have to guess the right keyword and then decide which of eleven emails is the one that matters. You ask; it reads; it answers.

Docs Live — dictate the first draft. Google describes it as a real-time conversation that helps you “build structured, context-aware documents on the fly.” It does not only use what you say — it can pull relevant material from Gmail, Drive, Chat and the web while assembling the draft.

Keep Live — say it messy, get it organized. The official wording is that you talk to Keep Live to “capture, structure, and refine your ideas into organized, actionable notes.” You can ramble; it sorts the rambling into lists in the background — recipes and shopping lists are the examples Google gives.

2. The part worth reading twice: who qualifies

The three features do not share a single entry price:

So the cheapest paid tier gets you Gmail and Keep, but Docs Live sits one step higher up. Google’s post also says Workspace business customers are getting these “coming soon” — meaning work accounts do not have them yet either.

Free Google accounts: none of the three. The announcement is unambiguous about this.

3. What that costs

If all you want is to ask your inbox questions, Plus is the floor. If you want Docs Live too, the floor is four times higher. Whether that gap is worth it depends entirely on how much drafting you genuinely do on a phone.

4. English-only at launch — and where that claim comes from

TechCrunch reported on September 3 that the features are rolling out to eligible iOS and Android users with support initially limited to English.

We also read Google’s own announcement post directly: it does not state the language or platform limits. So “English-only, mobile-only” is currently at the level of press reporting, not an official published constraint. We label it that way rather than promoting it to fact.

The distinction matters if your mailbox is not in English. Will an English voice query reliably find the gate number in a Chinese-language airline email? There is no official data on that, and we have not tested it ourselves, so we are not going to guess.

Practical takeaway: if you work mostly in a non-English language, there is no urgency to upgrade for these three features yet.

5. If you already pay for Google AI

1. Update the mobile apps. Google says the rollout is gradual over the week, so not everyone sees it the same day.
2. Start with Keep Live. It is the most forgiving: a messy note costs you nothing, whereas acting on a misheard flight gate costs you a flight.
3. Think about what is in there. All three features work by letting the assistant read your mail, documents and notes. If that content is confidential work material, check your organization’s policy first.
