We Read Grammarly's Affiliate Terms Line by Line: The 90-Day Cookie Is Great, But Seven Rules Can Wipe a Commission Out

Grammarly’s affiliate program is widely described as generous, and the official page backs that up with three numbers: 20–30% conversion rates, a 90-day cookie window, and an activation bonus.

What decides whether you actually get paid, though, is not on that page. It is in the terms and conditions. We read that document in full today (2026-09-06). Here are the seven clauses that can wipe a commission out.

1. First, the upside is real

The official page lists: 20–30% conversion rates, an activation bonus (place a banner and write a post), cross-device tracking, a 90-day cookie window, and regular performance incentives. Signup is advertised as taking under 60 seconds, and the terms state applicants are generally notified of acceptance or rejection within two business days — with the right to reject for any reason.

2. Seven clauses that zero a commission

1. Both events must happen inside 90 days. The terms are stricter than the marketing page: the account signup and the purchase must both occur within ninety days of the user’s first visit through your link. A signup now and a purchase in month four does not qualify.

2. Refunds and chargebacks do not count. The definition of a Qualified Action has six conditions, one of which excludes anything refunded at the customer’s request or lost to a chargeback. Dashboard numbers are provisional until that clears.

3. Nonprofits are excluded. The terms state commission is not paid to organisations that are nonprofits under Section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code. School clubs and charities cannot use this as a funding channel.

4. Last click takes everything. If a user clicks content from two separate affiliates, the last click before conversion receives the entire transaction credit. There is no partial split.

5. These promotion methods get you permanently removed. The terms use unusually hard language — “There are NO exceptions” — for: promotion via Craigslist, Picoworkers, Microworkers or any similar gig site; network-to-network brokering; incentivised placements; and any phone or call-centre sales. Breach means immediate removal and a permanent ban on rejoining.

6. Low conversion quality can freeze payment for 30 extra days. If your qualified actions do not convert to revenue at a rate substantially similar to Grammarly’s average, Grammarly may withhold payment for a further thirty calendar days while investigating, with your assistance; if the actions are judged illegitimate, the commission is voided. A separate clause allows pausing or terminating a campaign for low-quality traffic.

7. Fraudulent leads can be charged back. Leads generated by bots, by stolen credit cards, or created to artificially inflate commissions can be reclaimed within thirty business days after the end of the month in which they were generated.

3. When the money arrives

New affiliates are paid within 25 days following the end of the month in which the commission was earned, on an invoice Grammarly generates on your behalf. Disputes must be raised in writing within 30 days of the invoice date, or the claim is irrevocably waived. If your own tracking differs by more than 10%, both sides reconcile in good faith — and if they cannot agree, Grammarly’s numbers control.

4. Consumer and Business are two separate programs

The terms treat them separately, and note that you must be specifically opted in to each:

• Individual Consumer: two qualified actions — creating an account with an email not already in the database, and upgrading to a paid subscription.
• Business: three qualified actions — a self-serve purchase of up to 149 seats that continues past the free trial; a qualified referred lead of at least 150 seats that reaches a proposal; and a Closed Won sale of at least 150 seats.

Content written for individual readers and content written for enterprise buyers therefore run through completely different qualification logic.
