On October 15, 2026, we went back to Ideogram’s pricing page to check a tip that credit allotments had changed. They had — by a lot, and with no price increase on any plan. But buried in the fine print, Ideogram also made a quieter move: the free tier’s fixed weekly credit number is gone, and nothing public replaced it.

That combination matters if you’re deciding whether to keep using Ideogram for free or finally pay. More credits on paid plans sounds like a flat win. Whether it still is depends on what happened to the free side of the ledger.

Credits, if you haven’t run into the term: Ideogram charges per image using “credits,” a point system where each generation setting costs a set number of points, and higher image quality costs more points per picture.

What actually changed on October 15

Every paid plan kept its sticker price. Only the credit numbers moved:

  • Plus stays at US$20 a month, or US$180 a year if you pay annually (that works out to US$15 a month). Its monthly priority-credit allotment rose to 2,400, up from 1,000.
  • Pro stays at US$60 a month, or US$504 a year (US$42 a month on that plan). Its monthly allotment rose to 7,500, up from 3,500.
  • Team stays at US$30 per seat per month — “seat” meaning one paid login under the team account — or US$240 per seat per year (US$20 a month per seat). Each seat’s monthly allotment rose to 3,600, up from 1,500.
  • Enterprise is still a “contact sales” line with no published price. It comes with a custom credit allotment, volume discounts on API use (API is how other software connects to Ideogram directly, letting companies generate images automatically instead of through the website), and custom private models.

Priority credits are the ones that generate images quickly. Paying subscribers also get unlimited “slow credits” — the same generations, just a longer queue. Pay-as-you-go pricing, for anyone topping up credits outside a plan, is US$0.01 per credit.

What a credit buys depends on the model and quality setting. On Ideogram 4.5, Low quality costs 3 credits per image, Medium costs 6, and High costs 10. The 2a model’s Turbo setting costs 10 credits for a batch of 4 images. Older models (4.0, 3.0, 2.0, 1.0) each have their own per-image or per-batch credit costs listed on the site, so your actual output from any credit balance depends heavily on which model and setting you pick.

The free tier’s quiet downgrade

Before Ideogram’s August 2026 pricing overhaul, the free tier had a specific weekly credit number printed on the pricing page. That number is no longer there. The plan comparison table on ideogram.ai/pricing doesn’t have a Free column at all anymore.

The only mention of free usage left is a line in the FAQ: accounts that qualify — meaning you signed in with a Google, Apple, or Microsoft account — get weekly credits, and the amount “may vary.” No number. No guarantee it stays the same week to week.

Priority credits, the fast-processing kind, are flatly unavailable to free accounts. You can only get them by subscribing to Plus, Pro, or Team, or by buying a top-up at the US$0.01-per-credit rate. Whatever free credits you get each week reset weekly, but Ideogram doesn’t tell you in advance how many you’re getting.

That’s a real change in how predictable the free plan is. A fixed number, even a small one, let you plan: “I can make X images a week for free.” A variable, unpublished number doesn’t let you plan anything. If you’ve been relying on Ideogram’s free tier for a steady weekly output, this update gives you less to count on, even though nothing was technically removed in writing.

🔍 AMPM exclusive check

Ideogram’s own pricing page frames this release as a straightforward upgrade: credits going up, prices staying flat. That part checks out exactly as advertised across all three paid tiers, confirmed side by side against the monthly and annual billing tabs — Plus US$20/US$180, Pro US$60/US$504, Team US$30/US$240 per seat.

What the vendor page doesn’t call out anywhere, in any banner or changelog line we could find, is that the free tier’s fixed weekly number from before the August 2026 overhaul has been quietly dropped. You have to read past the plan comparison table, into the FAQ specifically, to find the sentence that replaces a number with “may vary.” Nothing on the page flags this as a downgrade, or even as a change — it just reads as neutral FAQ copy unless you know what used to be there.

We also checked both billing cadences directly rather than trusting the default monthly view, since Ideogram’s page requires switching tabs to see the annual numbers: Plus at US$15/month equivalent annually, Pro at US$42/month equivalent, Team at US$20/month equivalent per seat. All three annual figures are exactly as posted, no rounding involved.

☀️ AMO, the budget-minded cat

AMO, the budget-minded cat

AMO only cares about one question here: is Ideogram’s free plan still worth keeping, or is it time to pay? On the free side, the honest answer right now is “unclear, on purpose.” The old fixed weekly credit number — the thing that let you count on a specific amount of free output — is gone from the pricing page. What’s left is a FAQ sentence saying eligible accounts (signed in with Google, Apple, or Microsoft) get weekly credits of an amount that “may vary.” That’s not a number you can budget a week of work around.

On the paid side, the math moved in the user’s favor for once. Plus went from 1,000 to 2,400 priority credits a month for the same US$20, or US$180 a year. Pro went from 3,500 to 7,500 for the same US$60 a month, or US$504 a year. Team went from 1,500 to 3,600 credits per seat for the same US$30 a month, or US$240 a year per seat. None of those price tags moved.

For AMO’s wallet, the decision point isn’t “should I pay” in the abstract — it’s whether an unpredictable free weekly drip is still enough for your actual use. If you generate a handful of images a week and don’t mind queueing, free might still cover you, for now, even without a published number. If you need to know exactly what you’re getting before Monday morning, the free plan just stopped being able to promise that, and US$20 a month on Plus buys back that predictability along with more than double the priority credits it used to offer.

Verdict: who should use it, who should skip it

If you’re a casual user who only needs a few images here and there and doesn’t mind variable, unannounced weekly credits, staying free still costs nothing — just don’t expect a stable number to plan around anymore.

If you were already paying for Plus, Pro, or Team, this update is a straightforward win: your monthly credit allotment at least doubled (Plus and Team) or more than doubled (Pro), and your price didn’t move. Keep your plan, or reconsider which tier fits your volume, since 2,400 credits on Plus now goes noticeably further than it did before this change.

If you’re currently free and were relying on a specific, known weekly amount to plan client work, freelance deliverables, or any output you promise someone else by a deadline, this is the moment to look at Plus. The free tier no longer gives you that certainty, and US$20 a month gets a fixed 2,400 monthly priority credits plus private generation, neither of which free accounts get regardless of how many credits show up that week.

Skip paying if your use is occasional and you can tolerate not knowing your exact weekly free allotment in advance. Don’t skip it if predictable output matters more to you than saving US$20 a month.
