Midjourney has no free plan. That is the first thing to know, and it is the thing most people get wrong. The company killed its free trial in March 2023, so the cheapest way in is US$10 per month. If you came here hoping to test the tool before paying, the answer is no. If you came here to figure out which of the four tiers is worth your money, keep reading.

There is a second problem, and it shapes this entire review. Midjourney’s official site blocks automated price checks. Every number below comes from second-hand sources — fluxnote.io, eesel.ai, and felloai.com — checked on 2026-07-30. We re-verified those numbers against the same sources on 2026-11-02. They had not moved. But we could not pull them from Midjourney directly, and you should weigh that when you decide.

Prices vary by country; we checked from Taiwan.

The four tiers, and the one number that actually matters

Midjourney sells four plans: Basic at US$10 per month, Standard at US$30, Pro at US$60, and Mega at US$120. All four bill monthly. All four offer roughly 20% off on annual billing — about US$8, US$24, US$48, and US$96 per month respectively. No end date is listed for that discount, which means it could change without notice.

The number that matters is not the dollar figure. It is GPU hours. Midjourney meters your usage in fast GPU time, where one static image eats about one minute and a batch of HD video eats about 26 minutes. Basic gives you 3.3 hours of fast GPU time per month — roughly 200 static images. Standard gives you 15 hours. Pro gives you 30 hours. Mega gives you more than Pro, but the exact figure is not in our data.

Here is the trap. Basic has no Relax mode. Relax is Midjourney’s slower, unlimited generation queue. On Basic, once your 3.3 fast hours are gone, you wait until next month or you buy more. On Standard and above, you drop into Relax and keep generating, just slower. That single difference is why Standard is the tier most people should look at first.

Three things that are genuinely annoying

One: no free tier, and no way to test. Every competitor in the image category — Stable Diffusion, Leonardo, Ideogram — lets you generate something before you pay. Midjourney does not. You commit US$10 before you see a single output from your own account. For a tool with a reputation for quality, that is a strange way to treat new users.

Two: the pricing page is not machine-readable. We cannot verify these numbers the way we verify other tools. Midjourney blocks automated queries, so our checks run against third-party write-ups that were themselves published in July 2026. If Midjourney changed a price in August and nobody wrote about it, we would not know. That is a real gap, and it is the reason this review leans on “as of the last check” rather than “currently.”

Three: Basic is a dead end for anyone with real volume. 3.3 hours sounds fine until you do the math. At one minute per static image, that is about 200 images. A working illustrator or a small agency burns through that in a week. Then you are stuck. No Relax mode means no fallback. You either upgrade mid-month or you stop. The US$10 tier is a demo, not a plan.

What it does well

The quality reputation is real, and every tier gets access to every Midjourney model. There is no model gating — Basic users get the same generation engine as Mega users. That is unusual and worth crediting. Most tools reserve their best model for the top tier.

The annual discount is also straightforward. Roughly 20% off, applied across all four tiers, with no listed expiry. If you already know you will use it for a year, the math is simple.

And the tier structure is honest about what it is selling. Standard adds Relax. Pro adds Stealth mode, which keeps your generations off the public wall — the feature that matters if you are doing client work under NDA. The jump from Standard to Pro is not about volume. It is about privacy. That is a clean line, and it makes the upgrade decision easier.

🔍 AMPM exclusive check

Here is what our check turned up that the vendor page does not spell out.

Midjourney’s official pricing documentation page exists, but the site blocks automated retrieval. We could not pull live numbers from it on 2026-11-02. Every figure in this review traces to three third-party sources — fluxnote.io, eesel.ai, and felloai.com — all checked on 2026-07-30 and re-checked on 2026-11-02 with no changes.

The Mega tier is the clearest example of the gap. It is the fourth plan on the official site, but earlier data sets missed it entirely. We only have it because the July 2026 third-party check caught it. Its exact GPU hour allocation is still not in our data. We will not guess it.

One more thing our check confirmed: the free trial was cancelled in March 2023, and that has not been reversed. Anyone telling you Midjourney has a free tier is working from stale information.

☀️ AMO, the budget-minded cat

AMO, the budget-minded cat

Let me be blunt: there is no free option here, so the budget question is not “is free enough.” It is “is US$10 enough, or do I have to pay US$30.”

US$10 gets you 3.3 fast GPU hours, all models, and nothing else. No Relax. No Stealth. If you generate fewer than roughly 200 static images a month and you are fine waiting until the next billing cycle when you run out, Basic works. That is a narrow slice of users. Most people who generate regularly will hit the wall.

US$30 gets you 15 fast hours plus unlimited Relax generation. That is the real entry point. The Relax mode means you never fully stop — you just slow down. For anyone producing weekly, that is the difference between a usable tool and a paperweight.

US$60 adds Stealth mode. If you are not doing client work, you do not need it. If you are, you do.

US$120 is for high-volume operations. We do not have its exact GPU allocation, so we cannot tell you whether the jump from Pro is proportional. That is a gap, and we are flagging it rather than filling it.

Annual billing cuts roughly 20% off every tier. No listed end date. If you are sure about a year of use, take it.

🌙 PIMI, the performance-minded cat

PIMI, the performance-minded cat

Performance here is not about speed. It is about whether the metering matches how you actually work.

The GPU-hour model is the thing to understand. One static image is about one minute. A batch of HD video is about 26 minutes. That means video work destroys your quota fast. On Basic, 3.3 hours is roughly seven HD video batches for the entire month. If you are doing video, Basic is not a plan. It is a sample.

Standard’s 15 hours plus Relax is where the tool becomes usable for real production. You get fast generation for the work that needs it, and you fall back to Relax for iteration and experimentation. That split is smart, and it is why Standard is the tier we would point most people to.

Pro’s 30 hours plus Stealth is the professional tier. The Stealth feature is not a performance upgrade — it is a confidentiality one. If your clients require that their work not appear publicly, Pro is the floor, not a luxury.

Mega is the unknown. We know it exists, we know it costs US$120 monthly or about US$96 annually, and we know it offers more generation than Pro. We do not know the exact figure. Anyone claiming otherwise is guessing.

The honest performance verdict: the tool’s output quality is not in question. The metering is. Know your volume before you pick a tier, because the wrong one will either waste money or strand you mid-project.

Verdict: who should use it, who should skip it

Skip it if you need a free tier. There isn’t one, and there hasn’t been since March 2023. Go look at Stable Diffusion, Leonardo, or Ideogram instead.

Skip Basic if you generate more than roughly 200 static images a month, or if you do any video work at all. The lack of Relax mode makes it a dead end.

Use Standard if you generate weekly and want a plan that does not strand you. US$30 monthly, or about US$24 annually, gets you 15 fast hours plus unlimited slow generation. That is the sweet spot.

Use Pro if you do client work that cannot be public. Stealth mode starts here, at US$60 monthly or about US$48 annually.

Consider Mega only if you already know Pro’s 30 hours is not enough. We cannot tell you the exact allocation, and we will not pretend we can.

One last note on trust: every number here comes from third-party sources, not Midjourney’s own page, because the site blocks automated checks. We verified those sources twice — 2026-07-30 and 2026-11-02 — and nothing moved. But that is a weaker check than we would like, and you should know it.

AMO

AMPM is a Taiwan-based AI-tool pricing watchdog. Our motto: ask before you subscribe. Two cats argue every tool from two sides:

  • ☀️ AMO — the budget-minded cat. Always asks: is the free tier enough, and is paying actually worth it?
  • 🌙 PIMI — the performance-minded cat. Cares about whether it works well, fast, and gets your job done.
PIMI

When they are done arguing, you know whether to pay. Every number is checked by us, with the verification date at the end.
