Notion Custom Agents Start Billing Credits on October 15: US$10 per 1,000, and Two Official Pages Disagree on Who Can Use Them
Article last updated:2026-09-08
One line on Notion’s pricing page is easy to scroll past:
Free to try now. Starts using credits on October 15.
In plain terms: free today, metered from 15 October 2026. If you are currently moving repetitive work onto Custom Agents, that is the date to diary. Verified 2026-09-08 by reading notion.com/pricing and the official help centre directly.
1. The price: US$10 for 1,000 credits
The feature comparison states:
Free to try, then US$10 per 1,000 credits.
That is US$0.01 per credit. Notion does not publish how many credits a single agent run consumes, so “how much will this cost per month” cannot be answered yet — it has to be marked unverified, and any monthly figure you see elsewhere is not an official number.
Plan prices (pricing page; yearly billing saves up to 20%):
| Plan | Price |
|---|---|
| Free | US$0 per seat / month |
| Plus | US$10 per seat / month |
| Business | US$20 per seat / month |
| Enterprise | Contact sales |
2. Two official pages, two answers on eligibility
Reported as found:
- The pricing page comparison table marks Custom Agents as “Requires Notion credits” across plans — which reads as have credits, use the feature.
- The help centre article states plainly: “You must be on Notion’s Business or Enterprise Plan.”
Both cannot be fully true at once. The plausible reading is that the free trial period is open more widely and the plan gate returns on 15 October — but Notion does not say that, so it stays a guess. If this matters to a decision, check whether the feature appears in your own workspace rather than trusting the pricing page.
3. Three things worth doing before 15 October
The free window is for measurement, not for rolling everything out:
- Run it and record usage. Nothing is metered right now, which makes this the moment to learn how many agents you actually need and how often they fire. Those numbers become your budget baseline.
- Flag the high-frequency agents. Per the help centre, Custom Agents run automatically in the background on triggers and schedules — hourly versus weekly will be a very different bill after the 15th.
- Decide which work genuinely needs an agent. Notion positions them for repetitive tasks; anything a database formula or an existing automation already handles is not worth spending credits on.
4. How this relates to other Notion AI charges
Custom Agent credits are a separate billing line from the Notion AI features you may already know. The pricing page lists AI items separately: Free and Plus show “Trial”, full AI capability starts at Business, and Custom Agents are marked “Requires Notion credits” on every tier.
The pricing page also notes that when using Notion AI, LLM providers apply zero data retention for Enterprise workspaces, while Free, Plus and Business show 30-day retention. If you are weighing whether to let an agent read internal documents, that line matters more than the price.

Sources read directly on 2026-09-08: the Notion pricing page and the Custom Agents help article. “Free to try now. Starts using credits on October 15.” and “US$10 per 1,000 credits” are verbatim from the pricing page; “You must be on Notion’s Business or Enterprise Plan.” is verbatim from the help centre. The two are reported side by side without an editorial pick. Credit consumption per agent run is not published and remains unverified. Amounts are written as US$ per our house style; the source page uses the dollar sign, with identical values.
What Amo and Pimi think
Students: Plus is free after verifying school email, no reason not to use it. General users: Plus at US$10/month is sufficient. Those who need Notion Agent and AI meeting recording: Business at US$20/month. Don't forget that annual payment saves 20%.
