Synthesia Now Says 'New Lower Prices': What Actually Changed on the Starter Plan (Sept 2026)

Synthesia’s pricing page currently carries a banner: “NEW LOWER PRICES — Plans now starting from US$14/month - Save 34%.” We read the page with a rendering browser on 2026-09-06 and compared every line against our July verification record. This article records what the US-connection page showed that day; the situation on 2026-10-15 is in the next section.

Free plan check update (2026-10-15)

• On 2026-10-15 we reopened the official pricing page (https://www.synthesia.io/pricing, viewed from Taiwan, both the monthly and yearly tabs). The free plan, Basic, is now US$0 with 10 minutes of video, 500 credits and 3 survey responses every month, renewing each month with no rollover; 9 AI avatars and 3 AI video assets a month. Videos carry a watermark, cannot be downloaded, and there is no Personal Avatar. The September figures below (1,200 credits and 25 AI video assets a month on the free plan) are the old setup and are out of date.
• Plan rename and credit change: Creator has been renamed Pro, and the September figures of 44,000 credits a year for Creator and 14,500 a year for Starter are out of date. Pro now lists 6,000 credits a month on monthly billing or 72,000 credits a year on yearly billing; Starter lists 1,250 credits a month or 15,000 a year.
• Prices depend on where you connect from: the US$19 / US$14 / US$59 in this article were the US page that day, and we keep them as written. On 2026-10-15 from Taiwan we saw Starter at US$29 monthly or US$18 a month billed yearly, and Pro from US$89 monthly or US$64 a month billed yearly; the same day from the US we still saw Starter at US$19 monthly or US$14 yearly, and Pro at US$59 yearly. The real checkout page is the final word.
• Official FAQ: every plan includes a base of 10 minutes a month and the credits on paid plans are added on top; a typical minute of video costs about 100 credits, and Starter’s 1,250 credits add roughly 12 more minutes, about 22 minutes a month in total.

This table is the September record and its allowance column is the old setup. Prices depend on where you connect from, and Creator has since been renamed Pro; see the section above for the current picture.

The page also listed Roleplay Sessions at the time: 10 per month on Basic, Starter and Creator; 25 per month on Enterprise, shared across the organisation. (This is the September record; we did not recheck this item on 2026-10-15.)

What changed versus our July record (on 2026-09-06)

A follow-up: the “reduced” rows describe the US page. On 2026-10-15 the Taiwan-connection prices (Starter US$29 monthly and US$18 yearly, Pro US$64 yearly) are the same numbers as the July record column above. We did not keep the connection region for the July record, so we cannot tell whether September’s “reduction” was a real price cut or just a regional display difference. The free allowance has definitely changed (see the section above).

Watch the units (as of September 2026): paid tiers were quoted as annual credit totals (14,500 / 44,000) while the free tier was quoted monthly. Starter’s 120 minutes of video was per year, not per month. On 2026-10-15 the monthly tab quotes credits per month and the yearly tab quotes credits per year, delivered for the whole year at once.

Is the free tier usable?

Yes, for judging whether AI-avatar video works for your audience — 10 minutes and 9 avatars is enough for that. No, for delivering anything: downloads start at Starter, along with removing the Synthesia logo. Personal avatars also start at Starter (3 of them).

Who each tier suits

• Starter (US$14/mo yearly on the US page; US$18/mo yearly from Taiwan) — one person making internal training or product explainers; you get downloads and de-branding. Credits are now 1,250 a month on monthly billing or 15,000 a year on yearly billing, on top of the base 10 minutes, about 22 minutes a month in total per the official FAQ.
• Pro, formerly Creator (US$59/mo yearly on the US page; US$64/mo yearly from Taiwan) — teams needing multiple personal avatars, interactive video or branded video pages. The jump buys features and credits, not just minutes.
• Hold off if your real need is dubbing existing footage: dubbing is billed in credits (the official FAQ lists 80 credits a minute with lip-sync and 40 without), so do the arithmetic first.

The one-liner

Prices did drop on the US page, and at the entry tier, but the yearly per-month price means committing for a year, the US monthly price is still US$19, and from Taiwan the monthly price is US$29. If you only want to test the water, run the free plan’s 10 minutes first. Prices depend on where you connect from, so check the real checkout page before you pay.
