[Verified] Windsurf's pricing page now redirects to Devin: Pro is US$20 a month and free users get one model

Type windsurf.com/pricing into a browser and you will not land on Windsurf. We first caught this on 11 August 2026 and confirmed it again on 12 September. The address permanently redirects to devin.ai/pricing, and the page is branded Devin from top to bottom. Windsurf no longer has a standalone price list. Our angle for this piece is simple. We ignored the marketing copy and checked what each tier actually gives you today, what the free tier withholds, and whether the US$20 Pro plan earns its keep after a price rise earlier this year.

Windsurf is now a line item on Devin’s page

The redirect is not a temporary outage. It is permanent, and the destination describes every plan under the Devin brand. The good news is that the numbers did not change in the move. Every plan and price we recorded before the redirect still matches what the new page shows.

What did change happened earlier. On 19 March 2026, Windsurf did two things at once. It raised Pro from US$15 to US$20 per month, and it switched the free tier from credits to quotas. Credits were a prepaid points balance that each action drained. A quota is a fixed allowance that refills on a schedule. That switch matters more than it sounds. You cannot compare the old free tier to the new one on a like-for-like basis, because the unit of measurement changed on the same day the price did. That is the one detail we think most readers will miss on the vendor page.

The free tier, line by line

Here is what we verified is included at no cost, checked on 25 July 2026 and still consistent on 12 September:

• Tab completions: unlimited. These are the grey suggestions that appear as you type and that you accept with the Tab key.
• Inline edits: unlimited. Highlight a block, describe a change, and the model rewrites it in place.
• Coding with agents: a “light quota”. An agent is the mode where the tool plans and edits across many files on its own. The page calls this allowance light and gives no figure.
• Models: SWE 1.7 only. The page says “limited model availability”. In practice the free tier lists one model, Windsurf’s own SWE 1.7. No OpenAI, Claude or Gemini access.

Two gaps stood out. First, the free tier does not state when the quota resets. Our earlier note described it as a daily or weekly allowance, but the current page leaves the window unspecified, so we could not confirm it. Second, our check recorded the free tier as not cleared for commercial use. If you ship paid work on the free plan, that is a licence question, not just a quota one. There is no watermark on output.

Pro, Max and Teams: the numbers we confirmed

A seat is one user licence. A Teams bill is the US$80 base plus US$40 for every person you add.

Pro, verified 3 September 2026, includes everything in Free plus increased quotas, access to OpenAI, Claude and Gemini frontier models, full model availability, free use of SWE 1.7 and leading open-source models, access to cloud agents through Devin Cloud, and the option to buy extra usage at API pricing. Cloud agents run on Devin’s servers rather than your machine. API pricing means you pay the same per-token rate a developer pays to call the model directly, where a token is a chunk of text the model reads or writes, usually part of a word. The listing we recorded attaches no dollar figure to that extra usage, so budget for it as an open-ended line.

Max and Teams are thin on detail. For Max, the page says only that quotas are higher than Pro. For Teams, the only extra fact we could confirm is the US$80 base fee. Anyone considering either should treat the missing detail as a reason to ask before paying.

☀️ AMO, the budget-minded cat

AMO’s question is whether free is enough, and whether US$20 buys anything real.

For a hobbyist, free is more usable than the one-model limit suggests. Unlimited Tab completions and unlimited inline edits cover most of what a casual coder does in an editor all day. SWE 1.7 is the only model, but it is included and it is not metered. If you never touch agent mode, you may never hit the light quota at all.

The problems start the moment you want to work. The free tier is not cleared for commercial use in our records, so freelancers are pushed to Pro on licensing grounds alone. And the light agent quota has no published number and no published reset window. You will find the ceiling by hitting it.

Is US$20 worth it? Compared with the US$15 it cost before 19 March 2026, you are paying more for a plan whose headline benefit is the frontier models the free tier blocks. If you were only ever going to use SWE 1.7, Pro is a poor buy. If you want Claude, OpenAI or Gemini inside the editor, US$20 per month is the only entry price, since the next step is Max at US$200. AMO’s ruling: stay free until the quota or the licence bites, then pay US$20, and ignore Max unless you can name the workload that needs it.

🌙 PIMI, the performance-minded cat

PIMI cares about whether the tool does the job well and fast, and whether the pricing structure gets in the way.

On the free tier the answer is: only for small tasks. The two unlimited features, Tab completions and inline edits, are the low-latency parts of the product and they are not throttled. Agent mode, the feature that made Windsurf a Cursor rival in the first place, sits behind a light quota and a single model. SWE 1.7 handles routine edits, but a free user cannot compare it against a frontier model because none is available. You are evaluating the editor with its best engine removed.

Pro fixes that. US$20 buys full model availability across OpenAI, Claude and Gemini, plus cloud agents through Devin Cloud, which lets long tasks run without tying up your laptop. It also opens the tap on extra usage at API pricing. A heavy day does not stop you cold. It just costs more.

PIMI’s concern is the ceiling. “Increased quotas” is not a number. Max at US$200 per month is described only as higher than Pro. A developer who runs agents for hours a day cannot tell from the pricing page whether Pro lasts a week or a day, and the jump from US$20 to US$200 has nothing in between. PIMI’s ruling: Pro is the plan to test performance on. Measure your first month’s extra usage before deciding whether Max is a need or a guess.

Verdict: who should use it, who should skip it

Use the free tier if you code as a hobby, live in Tab completions and inline edits, and can accept one model with an unpublished agent allowance.

Pay US$20 for Pro if you want frontier models in the editor, need cloud agents, or do paid work and must stay outside the free tier’s licence limits. It is the only sensible paid entry point.

Hold off on Max and Teams until you have a measured reason. Max costs US$200 per month with no stated quota. Teams adds US$80 per month on top of US$40 per seat, and the page confirms little else.

Skip it entirely if you are shopping for Windsurf as an independent product. That product no longer has its own price page. You are buying a Devin plan, and the brand belongs to Devin now.
